Q&A with Mahesh, Android Engineer in Atlanta

LIFE@BACKBASE

About Mahesh

I'm Mahesh Venkat, Android Engineer at Backbase. I work in our Atlanta hub as part of the Product Implementation department.

I dreamed of becoming a software engineer since I was a kid, but becoming a mobile engineer was my destiny - I guess. During one of my first internships, I got to work with Android. As a big fan of all Google things, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I still do. Anything from them impresses me.

After moving from India to the US, back in 2012, I settled down in Atlanta.

Tell us about your job. What do you do at Backbase?

Right now I'm building an Android app for one of our retail banking clients in the US which is pretty exciting.

... but what do your parents think you do?

My parents think I do something with ☎️phones 😁

What brought you to Backbase?

Backbase's intuitive tools and our modern mobile app designs were the two main things that convinced me to take the leap and move from my previous job in fintech. It was totally worth it!

How does your work contribute to Backbase's mission to power the digital banking revolution?

We just finished a fantastic MVP for one of our clients in less time and with all the agreed features. It got a standing ovation from them. That's just proof of how much work and dedication everyone puts in.

What's unique about Backbase's engineering culture?

I would have to say the modern tools that we use, our intuitive designs, the overall competitive spirit, plus our awesome project architecture.

What do you think external folks would be surprised to learn about how we do things here?

Backbase is not your regular consulting firm. Here, your voice has a strong word. Your opinions are considered. You can say things as they are if you don't like something about the project you are working on.

If you could do another job for a day, what would that be and why?

I love to entertain people, so I would go for something that makes everyone around me happy. Outside of my regular job, I'm a dancer performing Bollywood, contemporary and lyrical hip-hop dance style. Plus, I also do modeling. I might add 'chef' to the list.
