You are the database authority within Backbase. By identifying and reproducing potential issues as well as investigating problems at customers you provide guidance to Technical Architects about the optimum database performance.
Meet the job
As the Database Performance Engineer you provide guidance to the development teams (tribes and squads) in their approach of databases and data design ensuring the microservices are operating on optimum performance. You analyze and interpret large volumes of performance data to characterize application behavior, scanning for potential problems. Once you've identified a potential issue or bottleneck you build a simulation to test your findings and when confirmed, you are able to explain it to the Technical Architects and provide guidance to a solution.
Apart from being the subject matter expert in Database Performance Engineering, you are also a gifted communicator. You are able to explain your complex finding to an audience differentiating in technical know-how, convincing them to adhere to your advice. Like so, you have a major impact on our overall software quality and performance.
How about you?
You have solid experience with large, highly available, and high-transaction databases (Oracle or MSSQL)
You are highly adept about database fundamentals and architectures
SQL code performance review and optimization
Experience working with large (100TB+), highly available, and high-transaction databases
Hands-on experience with standard edition tools for performance measurement, analysis, and optimization
Experience on developing tools and methodology for isolating performance issues
You are able to coordinate, plan and manage complex technical solutions
You are an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects to a wide audience with different expertise levels
