About Samuel
I'm originally from Mexico, I have lived abroad for 8 years now. I consider myself to be a citizen of the world who strives to improve people’s lives.
After working for a BIG software company and realizing about all the bureaucracy I decided to go abroad and do a Masters in Finance in the Netherlands. After graduating, I wanted to work for a Fintech company, where I could combine my IT knowledge and passion for finance. Via a recruiter, I managed to get my hands around a list from all fintech in NL and basically I started applying one by one. Backbase was one of them, rest is history.

Outside of work, I like to play American football (when I have time), read and go out with friends.
Do you have a favorite book?
Exponential Organisations. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in how exponential technologies are reinventing the best practices in business.

Tell us about your job. What do you do at Backbase?
I joined Backbase as a Business Development Manager in May 2017 and was recently promoted to Account Executive for the LATAM region. I have commercial responsibility for the entire region. In essence, I help banks within LATAM to make better decisions on their entire digital future.
What do your parents think you do?
Almost my whole family works in technology. They know I'm in software sales, so no surprise there.
How would you describe Backbase Sales culture?
Challenging, flexible, fun, entrepreneurial, no b*llshit. It’s like playing in the Champions League. As a sales guy in Backbase, you feel more empowered and you have a bigger responsibility in your role than you would have had otherwise. I have the flexibility to drive the engagement with the customer in a direction that I believe is right.

Name the most jaw-dropping destination you traveled to?
Cartagena in Colombia. It’s a colorful small town close to the beach. Beautiful place!
If you could do another job for a day, what would that be and why?
Coastguard, I love water and helping people, besides a little kick of adrenaline never hurts.
What advice would you give to someone who's interested in joining Backbase's sales team?
Be street smart. On top of that, you have to be a subject matter expert in the field we operate in and an eager and fast learner.
